Wait, Almost there...
This is Tim Ferris doctrine here. Find a niche, find 1,000 passionate customers, and boom, you can get it done from anywhere in the world. Location-independent. That is why, me, personally, I dig the e-commmerce oriented sites. That’s just me though.
Mild spoiler alert: Viewers of the TV drama Orange Is the New Black might remember that the show’s main character made amends with one of her fellow prison inmates by making her a soothing lotion. Hopefully you won’t find yourself in prison, but if you find yourself wanting to start a home-based business, consider hand-making soaps and lotions yourself.
People love to be organized but often they never find the time to make it happen. And a lot of people just aren’t very good at it either. You can help people organize their house. And in the process, you can make them feel more organized about their life! What a great service!
There are many specialist computer programs that people need to use for their business. If you are an expert in using these programs then you could start a business teaching potential users how to use them correctly and efficiently. You could also extend into mobile business applications as well. You could travel to company offices to teach in groups or provide one to one training.
While home-based businesses are not just for families, a family will become closer by spending time together, sharing problems, designing challenging projects and sharing work and school lives. King Solomon put it this way: “Two can accomplish more than twice as much as one. If one fails, the other pulls him up; but if a man falls when he is alone, he’s in trouble. One standing can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer; three is even better, for a triple-brained cord is not easily broken.”
I am gonna start an organisation for work from home women. Organisation like allotting work to them in Digital Marketing Side. So can you suggest an idea form your end. And the name of the organisation must be like?
Being a stubborn entrepreneur, it wasn’t long before I wanted to go all-in and start another company. My wife, supportive as she is, was decidedly less enthusiastic about us spending our entire life savings on my next venture. We compromised, and I agreed to only spend $1,000 and start by “going out and getting real customers” for a crazy new idea called Man Crates. Turns out that’s what I should have done the first time around.
A Personal Concierge is detail oriented, home-based professional that offers corporate and individual assistance by completing such tasks such as arranging meetings, planning corporate events, purchasing gifts or tickets, making reservations, and paying bills. The services that you can provide are endless, and all depend on your specific niche and experience.
Any moron can open a graphics program and push some pixels around, but that doesn’t make them a designer. The tool does not come with the knowledge. The fundamental skills that are required to do a good job take years to hone. This isn’t something you start and are good at over night. And if it takes years of work to get good at, and hours or days of work to arrive at a good product you should not be selling it for $5.
This one is a real wild card, but a friend in Dallas did it successfully for years. He was a self-taught art expert who advised clients on which pieces of fine art would make the best long-term investments. If you’re an art lover and educated—even self-educated—in art history, you can set up a business like this, too.

If you are in a climate that consistently gets a lot of snow each year, then this could be a good business. But if the snowfall is inconsistent, you could get stuck with having a nice new snowplow and truck, but no business.
One of my friend’s mothers who had performed as a Radio City Rockette, founded a highly successful dance studio for young girls. She was successful enough to rent large commercial space, but this is a business you may want to start in your home.
While you may first think of wedding planners or reunion organizers, there are many, many types of event planners out there. Some may specialize in parties for young kids, others in large corporate events. Think carefully of a specialty that you could do well in and meet participants in that field, before you open shop.

Here’s an example of someone who picked the right home business, using the power of online marketing: Operating out of her home, Ming Friedman imports fine linen tablecloths and sells them to party rental firms. Ming doesn’t need a store, a warehouse, factory or marketing organization. She has her products manufactured in China, uses her garage for storage, has a terrific website for marketing and hires FedEx for shipping. Ming operates her business full-time, but this is an example of the kind of business that can be operated either full time or as a moonlight operation.
I believe that every business, even a lemonade stand, should have a business plan. But many people either hesitate to create a plan or don’t know how to do it. That’s where you come in. But remember your big value added is to help your clients learn how to develop a framework for making critical strategic decisions for their business, not just to create a nice-looking document.
Every business needs help with their Internet marketing. And now I see even the smallest businesses hiring specialists for individual aspects of digital marketing. For example, they may hire one expert for pay-for-click search engine advertising, another for Facebook marketing and still another for SEO for their website. So, you could focus on one aspect of digital marketing, or you could be a generalist.

What is affiliate marketing? You provide links on your website or blog to an affiliate marketing service that sells a third-party product or company that sells their own product. The largest affiliate marketer is Amazon whose commissions are in the 4-4.5% range. Then there are the affiliate marketing services like Click Bank and ShareASale, which offer thousands of products, some of which have commissions as high as 70%. It sounds like an easy way to make money and some people have made a lot of money on it…but many more people have been disappointed by their results. It is very hard to get your website and blog visitors to buy things!
So, you have the entrepreneurial spirit but not a lot of tech know-how? Despite all of the high-tech startups that have popped up in recent years, there are still plenty of small business options out there that don’t require you to know the difference between CSS and QR codes. The antique market is not as lively as it used to be. But there’s still money to be had from the industry if you love rare old stuff and possess the skill of restoring them to their former glory. To start an antique refurbishing business at home, you’ll likely need a few thousand dollars to build out a basic workshop and stock it with all of the right treatments and materials in order to truly excel with this side business idea. Start small by borrowing around what you can, and learning the basics of the trade as a side hustle before investing in a ton of equipment.
Hi Aira. I have tried this 2 x and its nearly impossible to get known and followers – let alone people to participate. Its so hard. I really began because I hoped they would lead to people advertising on my Blogs and earning an income – and overcoming my depression by being busy.

Please note that some of the links below are affiliate links and at no additional cost to you, I will earn a commission. Know that I only recommend tools and learning resources I’ve personally used and believe are genuinely helpful, not because of the small commissions I make if you decide to purchase them. Most of all, I would never advocate for buying something that you can’t afford or that you’re not yet ready to implement.

If you don’t have a lot of experience, I think you still can succeed at consulting. But, until you develop deep expertise, I think you should focus on lower-priced packaged options, that is, for a certain fixed price you will offer a certain package of consulting.
In August 2015 a popular virtual assistant (VA) company, Zirtual, announced it was shutting down–leaving behind nearly 2,500 clients and 400 employees. At the time, I was already deeply ingrained in the productivity space and figured the news offered a big opportunity to try to fix the existing issues in the VA space.
Know your competition. If you plan on working from home locally, look around town for other businesses offering the same services or products. You’ll have to figure out if there is enough business left for you in your area. If you plan to work online, you’re dealing with a very crowded market in most cases, so you’ll have to find a way to differentiate yourself from the competition.
There are plenty of charities and other organizations that use events or organized campaigns as a primary fundraising method. If you enjoy organizing events or other money making opportunities, you might be able to do so by creating a home-based business.
Great list. I would also add private chef/cook. If you live near a metropolitan area with highly paid, but very busy professionals, there is a great need for people to prepare home-cooked meals for them.
I like these ideas! Besides being good ideas in themselves, they stimulate MORE ideas! Some of them reminded me of something I was reading about called Craigslist arbitrage – buying low and selling high on craigslist, kind of like the first part of the old Oregon Trail game, but with washers and dryers and bicycles instead of cases of crackers and horses. Sounds like fun! Anyway, that one about the pooper-scooper business, that works, I know because I was quite successful in the pooper-scooper service I started back in 1988! I’ve been in the industry for 25 years now, though I don’t go out and scoop any more.
